The move comes after the MCAs adopted the findings of a special committee that investigated the grounds for the impeachment motion against Oduol, which was tabled on June 29.
The impeachment motion was initiated by Gordon Onguru, the MCA representing East Asembo Ward.
Onguru accused the Deputy Governor of gross violations of the Constitution, abuse of office, and misappropriation of public resources, among other allegations.
The special committee, chaired by Francis Otiato, the MCA for Yimbo East Ward, substantiated these claims and recommended Oduol’s impeachment.

During the committee’s report deliberations, several Siaya MCAs expressed their support for Oduol’s removal. They characterised him as a dishonest leader driven solely by self-interest.
It was revealed that the irreparable differences between Oduol and Governor James Orengo were hindering effective governance, prompting the need for Oduol’s removal to allow the county chief to deliver essential services to the people.
Moreover, MCAs accused the Deputy Governor of engaging in character assassination and tarnishing the image of Governor Orengo, as well as maligning the reputation of the MCAs by accusing them of compromise.
The MCAs from Alego/Usonga Constituency stressed that the protracted conflict between Oduol and his boss had cast a negative light on the entire county assembly.
Following a roll-call vote, Siaya County Assembly Speaker George Okode put the matter to question, and the members unanimously approved the committee’s report, resulting in the immediate removal of William Oduol from the position of Deputy Governor.
As a next step, the Siaya County Assembly will submit a formal communication to the Senate, providing detailed information about the grounds on which the impeachment was based and the reasons behind their decision to impeach the Deputy Governor.
The impeachment of William Oduol marks a significant development in the political landscape of Siaya County.
With his removal, attention now turns to the subsequent actions by the county government and the appointment of a new Deputy Governor to ensure smooth functioning and effective governance for the benefit of the people of Siaya.
