Wetangula informed the house that he could not authorise the removal of Chege from her position owing to a petition filed in court.
The speaker pointed out that even though the opposition led by ODM leader Raila Odinga had followed all the procedures in their bid to remove Chege, the decision remains suspended until the case filed by the embattled lawmaker is heard and determined.
Strangely, Wetang’ula disclosed that the opposition outfit had not been sued, but instead, it was him and the National Assembly who were named in the court orders.

Blow to Azimio as Wetang’ula Declines to Remove Sabina Chege from Minority Position, Cites Court Order
“I have ruled that you (Minority Party) have procedurally followed every step and have no difficulty with your decision to remove your deputy whip but there’s a court order to which strangely your party and coalition is not a party to the proceedings.
“My hands are therefore tied with regards to the court order that has been brought to my attention until and when further information is provided that this order has been varied or set aside, the court effectively suspends the decision by the minority party on the removal of Sabina Chege as deputy minority whip,” Wetang’ula ruled.
