In Kindu, in the province of Maniema, there has been a strong police presence in different hot spots in the city since Monday, November 20. The provincial authorities are talking about a preventive deployment of security forces to maintain order in this turbulent period due to the political context.
Maître Marcel Lembalemba, commissioner in charge of the interior and security, explained that this deployment is part of preventive security measures to ensure the safety of candidates and voters during this electoral campaign.
Police officers are visible in all the hot spots in the city, in the Mikelenge District, Tokolote, Basoko, etc. the population woke up this Monday to the presence of dark blue outfits.
“We have deployed several elements of the Congolese National Police in all the hot spots in the town of Kindu where unrest could occur. This deployment was done with the aim of guaranteeing security. For us, these are preventive measures, there are no problems so far. We also plan to strengthen the police presence inside the province also to prevent unrest,” explains the commissioner in charge of the interior and security of the province of Maniema.
This security deployment comes while the electoral campaign for the presidential election and the national and provincial legislative elections of December 20, 2023 is underway.
