Tension begins to rise after the holding of the presidential election in Chad, having opposed ten candidates on Monday May 6, including the transitional president, General Mahamat Deby and the Prime Minister, Succès Masra. This Wednesday, May 8, the Les Transformateurs party stepped up to denounce “the threats and intimidation” weighing on its candidate Dr. Succès Masra and his activists.
In a press release signed by its Secretary General, Tog-yeum Nagorngar, the party accuses political actors of engaging in “very serious” provocations, with state means.
To support this accusation, the party cites “the permanent drone surveillance of the private residence of its candidate Dr Succès Masra. »
On May 7, a video made at the private residence of the Prime Minister-candidate circulated on the web. In this capsule of a few seconds, visibly produced by drone, we see the interior of the courtyard of the home of the minister and candidate of the Les Transformateurs party in the presidential election on May 6. In a close-up, a young man is visible entering the residence with a container in the shape of a rectangle and strongly resembling a ballot box used for the presidential election. Through these images, some Internet users accuse the party of engaging in “ballot stuffing.” » Which the General Secretariat of the said party refutes.
For the political group of Dr Succès Masra, these threats are the prerogative of “those who are afraid of the truth at the ballot box. »
“Activists of the Les Transformateurs party, the Justice-Equality coalition and sympathizers are subject to threats and suffer serious violence, particularly from certain administrative authorities and members of the defense and security forces,” denounces the communicated.
The party says it denounces this “unacceptable behavior” and does not intend “to continue to suffer these actions in an impassive manner”. “The Transformers remain determined to uphold republican values and to guarantee that the voice of the people coming from the polls is heard, in a secure and peaceful environment,” the press release concludes.
On Monday, more than eight million Chadians were called to the polls to elect their president from ten candidates. The president of the transition, General Deby, and his Prime Minister Masra are the main challengers in this election, the official results of which will be announced on May 21 by the National Election Management Agency.
